The end is near

The suicide grenadier managed to get a grenade off, but it didn't kill anyone. The surviving grunt retreated and was attacked by two buzzers in an orderly queue. He proceeded to gun both down which cheered me up a bit. A grenade fired last turn also killed something, but I don't know what. The fact that the vile spawn have a queen has also been confirmed.

The northern team was rushed. No kills nor casualties yet, but it looks pretty grim. The drones are somewhat damaged by my grenades but there are a fair amount of them. Also, my rearguarding medic has been attacked by spikers.

Everyone is shooting like crazy trying to take some of the enemy with them (so much for clever planning). The rearguarding medic is cornerdancing against the spikers although I expect that he will be rushed from the side.

Ouch!

Well, that went wrong rather quickly. The southern drones avoided all my grenades by going through my building and the northern drones went east. These two packs of drones quickly overwhelmed the central building team and all that remains of them is a lone grenadier. Meanwhile, the garden team was eaten by buzzers. I somehow managed to not realize that buzzers can fly through holes in low walls. Only grunt left standing, and he is near dead. The northern team remains unscathed.

The garden grunt will retreat to a corridor of trees and will try to shoot anything coming his way. The lone grenadier left of the middle team will try and grenade himself, hopefully taking some foes with him, but it's likely he'll die before he can launch.

The unscathed northern team begins a desperate counterattack. The grenadies jogs to a better launch position and drops 'nades at potential drone positions. The sniper and the grunt cover him, while the medic watches their rear. The lone medic at the HQ will stick there for now.

Walls are down....

.... but no casualties just yet. There are lots more missiles in the air so hopefully I'll be a point or two up at the end of this turn. Trouble is, he now knows where to aim those random warps....

Ok, here goes nothing. I'm launching LOTS of missiles this turn, so the next one should be interesting. I'm also moving some XT's in to take pot shots at any wounded retreating troops.

About to be eaten...

My men advanced as planned, and ran into bugs! There is a group of four buzzers and a group of four drones south-east of the central building, running towards my men in the garden. The drones are further away while the buzzers are about to make contact. Also, there are at least two, probably more, drones on the west side of the central building, supposedly advacing towards the northern building. Now I'm going to have to contract a bit.

The plans is this: the grenadier in the garden tries to land grenades on the path of the charging drones as the grunts gun down the buzzers. The sniper will try to get shots in the advancing drones as well as making sure I'm not surprised by anything coming from there. The grenadiers in and around the central building will also land grenades on the path of the drones while their grunts secure paths towards our position. The northern group shall grenade a suspected path of the drones thearening them while the sniper starts firing over the barrels.

Meet the new plan

Ok, I've moved my 3 MT's so they can all dump all their missiles down the centre of the map. I'm also using the AI to remove some of the walls between me and those sentries.

The hope is that I wont need to use any of the missiles taking out the intervening walls, I can just rain then down on the centre building. Hopefully it'll net me a few points, and put him on the attack.

My scanner has seen a pair of sentries in the centre, with a Psycher further back. I'm going to move the Scanner out of Psyching range as I dont really want my position given away.

I'm toying with the idea of shooting more walls out in the centre and then sending a missile barrage that way. I've wasted a bit of time moving the AI about, but hopefully it'll come good.

More Warps

He's still sending in lots of warps, but he must be a fair distance away as they are doing no damage to me. I've shot a hole in the wall near the scanner so I can advance in to see if there are any enemies nearby.

I've almost finished my redecoration, so I think it's soon time for me to start sending some missiles.

I've seen a couple of warp balls firing off near my troops, but no indication of where they came from. Still need more info. I'm gonig to shift the scanner about to see if I can find anything.

I'm also doing a bit more demolition with the AI.

Nothing is showing up on my Scanner yet, so the advance continues.

My AI is making headway on the demolition, but there is quite a lot still to go. I've decided to advance the MT on the left hand side a little. Hopefully he wont expect to come face to face with anyone.

Post-Deployment

Marines it is. I've set-up 4 grenadiers, 2 snipers, 5 grunts, 2 medics and an HQ. They're set up into three teams going initially three ways: a sniper, a grunt, a grenadier and a medic (or a grenadier element and a sniper element with the grunt switch into a medic) are trying to deploy the sniper into the northwestern building. Two grunts and two grenadiers (or two grenadier elements) will attempt to take control of the central building. Finally, a sniper, a grenadier and two grunts (or a sniper element and a grenadier element) will set the sniper up at the garden next to my deployment zone. This leaves one medic standing near the HQ waiting for something to do. Since I most often lose marine games due to my medics buying it and my other troops being near dead, I wish to keep at least one of them safe.

My first objective, besides advancing and taking control of some of the buildings, is finding out which race my opponent has deployed. If he is spawn, my force would be far too spread out deployed according to my initial plan. Otherwise it should be a fairly solid deployment.

Pre-Deployment

The game drawn for my game against GregHolg was signs. This map had been grounds for my first ever league victory so I feel a bit optimistic about it. Last time I had deployed machina and might do it again since the center building seems like an ideal scanner position. I wouldn't take spawn on this map since there isn't much room to sneak around. The presence of low walls, trees and lots of destructable buildings would also suit marines well. Greys I won't even consider since I'm fed up deploying them right now.

There's also a fair bit of terrain between my deployment zone and the enemy's so I probably won't have to worry about missiles hitting me too soon. There are also fairly clear lanes of fire so I'm not terribly worried about being rushed by spawn. That said, my opponent could be any of four races, so I'll prepare for that.

Next up, deployment.

Thats it...

Game over. My final MT has gone up in smoke. I didnt see where the final shot came from, and the missile I managed to get off didnt seem to cause anyone a problem.

I think my Missile Barrage technique needs a little refinement, or some worse opponents.

Almost over

I'm down to my last MT.

I fired through the small hole in the wall, but didnt manage to catch anyone with the blast. As I rumbled outside I was beset by fire from all sides, ending up with me turning into a pile of twisted mental. Even my death explosion didnt catch anything. I did see a very badly wounded Grenader running away, but thats about it.

A few more Fire And Forget orders this turn. I'll Fire my missiles and Forget about winning this game.

Getting ready

Ok, lets get a few troops into position. I'm rolling the Scanner as far forward as I can, hoping to get a glimpse of the greys somewhere. The XT's are moving forward, while the MT's lay in wait.

Boom shake-shake-shake the room!

I think thats Flash Panach's favourite Will Smith song (I hear he is a huge fan)

Not content with puling grenades in from the rightm the cheeky blighter is bouncing them in through the little hole in the wall. (Ok, its something I thought about doing earlier, but to use my own idea against me is just mean.

Anyway, faced with such an insistent attack my HW did the polite thing and exploded leaving me with a total of 5 missiles and 30 HP across both MT's . I wont tell you what is where just to keep the suspense up.

Plans..? Hmm, dont really have any. While "Fire some missiles" pretty much covers my options I think I'll mix in a bit of "Move around a bit" too.

Blinded by the light

Well, 'grenade' really as it took my Scanner out. I cant see where I;'m firing, so it was pure luck that netted me another point.

I have a grenader on the right unloading into the central area. I'm goig to try to missile the wall that I expect him to run away past.

I really dont see this game going on much longer....

My full health drines made short work of his drones still dazed and hurt by the splatters before. 3 drones on his queen soon brought her down. while scatbats forlorn goo spiter spat..

Close game for a while , but my splatters and drone charge carried the day!!!

Me vs Scat turn 6

My splatter have taken out about 4 of his drones and hurt his queen a bit. My Drones are started to arrive in force to kell and pick off the wounded.

My worrie is that his queen is on hand to eat the bodies! Do i go for his queen with most of my force or do i kill off his drones first? which is the best way> I decide on a middle path a mix of drone and queen attack orders. Will see whats what !

Making progress!

My hunter squadron managed to inflict a lot of damage on the troops as they moved across the bottom. I killed a sniper, and hurt a few of the grunts. The other sniper swatted a hunter in a single shot though.

The grenader on the other side of the map is no more, he was sandwiched between hunters and my AI, so they made a meal of him. That area of the map must be fairly empty.

.....And then it was over... just like that.

Found him!

My drone part of the drone and splatter pairing at the bottom of the map have found 4/5 drones in a long room at the bass of the map.

Orders my slpatter can get in the room on 6.5 secs and go bang! my drone gets busy with one of his but stays put to draw them around i'm!

The rest are getting closer a coupke of turns from atticing him1 i hope his drone horde will be hurt a plenty by my splatters!!!!

Its spawn vs spawn!!!!!

The room i rushed with 80% of my force is empty bar one enemy buzzer which starts eating my goo spitter. All the rooms up top are empty . My splatters have found no one.

Plan regroup drones twards the centre, kill buzzer.!

My queen eats the buzer, but not before it kill my goo spitter! No futher sign of the enemy spawn. Plan to group up and head down map to find i'm. Nee to get in cl0se with my splatter and drone heavy force!

No More Curse!

Well a pretty uneventful ending. My AI zapped the Commander, taking the final score to 15-3. At least my curse of only documenting losing League games is over!

I think I was lucky in that he ahd bunched all his troops up right next to where I deployed my AI. I was able to keep the pressure on all the time from multiple angles. Perhaps if he had tried to retreat into the buildings earlier it might have changed things a bit.

colmanspig vs scatbats on labyrinth

Deploy!

Map labyrinth, never played here before quite a large map for the 20 fps we have to play with. Mixed deploy ment zones.

I plump for spawn, I figure plenty of cover , I can get my lot into most of his deployment zones on turn 1 do some damage I hope.

Thing is were will he deploy? Also it’s a big map and I’ve only 20 fps. I need to at least dominate one area ie be strong somewhere.

So I plump for queen plus 6 drones a goo spitter and a buzzer or two in the buildings of the top of the map which can rush a large green deployment zone from all sides. Lets hope he sets up there eh?

Elsewhere drone and splatter pairs are deployed nr other possible areas to try and do early damage A couple of spikers are in the top half of the map but as I never really know what to do with them as they are blind , they will just react to what’s happening. Oh one lone scout buzzer is down the bottom left, looking bored!

Lets see what happens!

Breaking the curse

Argonaught tried to make a run for it, and his wounded Commander almost got away, but a shot from one of my Hunters took it out. The accompanying Medic stopped dead in his tracks, with the emphasis on dead

That leaves a single Commander against my AI, 6 XT's and 2 Hunters. I dont see how I can lose from here.....

I'm closing in, and trying to get round the back to really seal him in.
