Deployment

Ok, the map is Italy [1] .

I've gone MT heavy, as I think I'll need their firepower to help defeat those evil Greys. There are no military walls on this map so I should be able to blast on through and catch his sheilds in the blast area.

I'm going to use an AI to do some wall remodelling to give my MT's easier access to the two HQ's. I've also got a Scanner I'm going to roll up the centre with a XT guard. I hope to hold off on the missiles until I know whre he is roughly, rather than totally give my plan away by firing billions of missiles on the first turn.

Lets see how this one turns out.

1 Which I've only just realised is based on the Counterstrike map of the same name. Well, there you go!

Getting ready

Ok, lets get a few troops into position. I'm rolling the Scanner as far forward as I can, hoping to get a glimpse of the greys somewhere. The XT's are moving forward, while the MT's lay in wait.

The AI is getting to work on demolition duties.

No signs yet....

Nothing is showing up on my Scanner yet, so the advance continues.

My AI is making headway on the demolition, but there is quite a lot still to go. I've decided to advance the MT on the left hand side a little. Hopefully he wont expect to come face to face with anyone.

Contact - ish

I've seen a couple of warp balls firing off near my troops, but no indication of where they came from. Still need more info. I'm gonig to shift the scanner about to see if I can find anything.

I'm also doing a bit more demolition with the AI.

More Warps

He's still sending in lots of warps, but he must be a fair distance away as they are doing no damage to me. I've shot a hole in the wall near the scanner so I can advance in to see if there are any enemies nearby.

I've almost finished my redecoration, so I think it's soon time for me to start sending some missiles.

Contact

My scanner has seen a pair of sentries in the centre, with a Psycher further back. I'm going to move the Scanner out of Psyching range as I dont really want my position given away.

I'm toying with the idea of shooting more walls out in the centre and then sending a missile barrage that way. I've wasted a bit of time moving the AI about, but hopefully it'll come good.

Meet the new plan

Ok, I've moved my 3 MT's so they can all dump all their missiles down the centre of the map. I'm also using the AI to remove some of the walls between me and those sentries.

The hope is that I wont need to use any of the missiles taking out the intervening walls, I can just rain then down on the centre building. Hopefully it'll net me a few points, and put him on the attack.

Missiles Away!

Ok, here goes nothing. I'm launching LOTS of missiles this turn, so the next one should be interesting. I'm also moving some XT's in to take pot shots at any wounded retreating troops.

Walls are down....

.... but no casualties just yet. There are lots more missiles in the air so hopefully I'll be a point or two up at the end of this turn. Trouble is, he now knows where to aim those random warps....

Large update

A lot has happened in this game since my last post.

I am low on time so wanted to get the turns sent in as quickly as possible.

The missile barrage down the middle was sucessful, taking out a sentry on its own, and an XT finished off another. I also picked up a sentry in the buildings at the bottom, so that gave me another MT target. I spent a lot of time kepping tabs on that side with my scanner. I also had a couple of XT's secreted at the top of the map in case he tries to approach that way. As they moved forward they spotted a regen at the top. They both died trying to take it out, but I did get another sentry with my central XT's taking the score to 3 - 2. I also saw a guardian appear through the regen, so another is around somewhere.

I force fired my other XT's to help take out the shield while my MT sent its load flying over. I was lucky enough to get a direct hit on the regen with a missile, but I think everyone had teleported out the area. Ther must have been one more troop over there as I got a point from a wayward missile

On the bottom of the map I decided to advance my Scanner far enough to get a good look at that corner of the deployment. It showed me where another regen is along with lots of other troops. I now need to get some missiles in that way, and maybe bring my other guns to bear. My Scanner needs to get out of the way also!

Retreating

A couple of sentries put my retreating SCanner under some pressure, despite the incoming missiles. Eventually it was finished off with a Warp ball bringing the score to 5 - 4.

I have some wounded XT's and really dont want to lose the fragile 1 point lead. Its turn 23, so I dont have much longer to hold on for. My AI is on repair duty, and I want to keep the missiles flowing to keep his troops at bay.

Warps everywhere!

I dont know how many warpers he has, but it has to be at least 2. There are warps coming in from all directions. Luckily the Mechs armour means they are not doing much damage, and my AI has been fixing up my wounded troops.

I want to try to take out the regen, by hopefully concentrating missile fire in that area. I think he might have another on the right of the map as a sentry ran away in that direction. The shelling continues!

Few turns more...

A couple more turns have passed with not much activity. I dont know whre any of his troops are, and I still have a 1 point lead.

I still want to wipe out the regen, but need more info on where he is.

I'm advancing a single XT for a bit of intel, then I'm taking the cowards way out by retreating into my base. the warps are doing very little damage, and by the time he gets nearer with the warpers I'm hoping it'll be too late.

5 turns left!

Still nothing

Turn 27/30 and the score is still 5-4. He must be going nuts trying to get a single kill.

His warps are all going off at the location my AI was a few turns back. Its now safely ensconced back down my end of the map. I'm going to pull back the rest of my troops and wait it out.

We have an interloper!

My retreating XT has spotted a lone Psycher in the central building! The XT is within psyching range so will probably get zapped. It will soon be out of range though , but I wonder what else he has nearby.

Time to send some missiles into the general vicinity. I dont want him to pull level at this stage of the game!

Almost there!

The XT did get psyched down to 8 health, but should be out of range now. I also must have got a hit on the regen with a missile as it only has a couple of HP left.

Can I hold out long enough to scrape a win....?

Last Turn!

I managed to get another hit on the regen, sending it up in flames. That takes the score to 6-4, so there were no other Greys hanging around it (unfortunately...)

The Psycher has gone awol, but I think I have the game now. I cannot see him getting two of my units on this turn as I think most of them are out of range

Game Over!

I scrape it!

The last turn has no scoreline change. It ends 6-4.

The warps came in thick and fast but did no damage thanks to the Mechs armour.

I think the three MT's did well on this map (whats left of it) . I'm also very happy with the tactic of shooting out the middle walls to alllow the missiles to strike without any giveaway explosions beforehand. I think I needed the early lead in order to force him to attack.

A fun game!

If you want to check it out the wholegame is on the LGA
