Awful map!

My game against thegoblin has picked an awful map for my Greys, Paranoia1

I've also been given the Blue area which doesnt really have many 'safe' places for my regens.

I know he is going to be Mechs, so will likely take a Scanner or two to help track my troops. I gave him quite a beating in our last meeting in the Specialist League, so he'll be looking to give me a kicking back.

I think I'm going to go rather Psycher heavy, as they are able to attack through the walls, and I think I'll need all the intel I can get... I think I'll try to get them behind the locked doors towards the centre of the complex for maximum coverage

I've gone with 2 regens, 2 Saucers, 3 Psychers, 1 Warper and 3 sentries. I dont think this game will go well for me...

1 The image for this map is a little out of date, it got changed recently and now has a few Forcefields in it along with some alterations to the outlying buildings.

Lets get started

I've ha a lack of timne and an overload of games lately, but I think I need to press on with this game against gobbo.

As I said before he's going to be looking for revenge after the drubbing I gave him last time round. I think he's going to give me one too. A drubbing, that is....

This first turn is spent moving troopsmup into position. I'm trying to get my psychers and warpers up close to the centre of the map, and am running my saucers out to the extremities for intel gathering.

He must be SOOOOO Confident!

Gobbo has to be very confident in a win, as he has killed one of his own units on the first turn.

Lots of explosions in the bottom left, setting off some explosive barrels looks like it killed a Hunter that he had whizzing off that way. Thanks for that!

For my turn I'm just moving my troops up into nice positions, and moving my saucers out a bit further. I'm sending out a few exploratory Psyckes also. I have to assume that he has a scanner on this map so he is going to know where my troops are fairly quickly. If it comes to it I'm going to use my Sentries to block off the room entrances and Psycke any attacking units.

Lots of Intel!

By moving my saucer up near the forcefield I was able to get a good look up the corridor. That, combined with my Psyches meant I could see lots of units.

I've seen 3 XT's , 2 hunters and a scanner up the main corridor. One of the psyched XT's stumbled upon the HQ with an MT parked next to it. I've also spooted 1 further HT on the left, and 1 at the bottom.

At the top I psyched an XT which spotted another, along with an AI.

There is also something else up by my Saucer as I saw a door open and close.

That totals

  • 5 XT's
  • 1 Scanner
  • 3 HT's
  • 1 AI
  • 1 MT
  • 1 HQ

Which is 19 points of known units. Once you take into account the 1 point I already have then that leaves only 5 points I do not know about.

I'm going to try to psyche the Scanner to see what else I can see, then I'll start on the MT and surrounding units. I'm also sending a few psyches towards the Hunter that popped out at the top left towards the end of the turn. My Warper is sending a few warps through the compleox to see if I can catch anything.

I'm also trying to move one of my Psychers towards the forward psycher as that location seems to have better coverage towards the MT. I dont think many units have gone through the middle areas to catch with random psyches.

On the up

My retreating saucer at the top managed to discover a hunter trying to sneak round the top of the map to get to my deployment zone. I shot it in the back while it was struggling with a doorway. I also managed to psyche the hunter i saw at the end of the last turn, which headed directly for the same saucer. It had no idea what hit it.

On the other side of the map a psyched hunter showed me that his scanner was moving into one of the central rooms.

My saucer in that area also took a few shots at the MT, which is being guarded by 2 XT's as far as I can tell.

I'm going to move the top suacer back out to take a few shots at the XT's and AI up in that area. I'll probably have to withdraw it next turn as its likely to take a bit of a beating if they have advanced on in. I'm going to move my Warper up into that area a little to help out with clearing up the XT's in that area. Hopefully it'll be able to make a dent in the AI too.

Going well so far

My saucer in the bottom right took quite a few shots at the MT and XT's over on that side of the map. The MT is at about 25% health and the XT right next to it has about 1 Health left. However, that saucer is completely out of energy as it took a few XT shots and a missile exploded nearby. Time to run it back to the regens!

Up the top of the map my Saucer has found the approaching AI along with about 3 XT's. Unfortunately for gobbo, those XT's are stood just about where my warp is going to go off in about 3 seconds. I'm firing a couple more Warps towards them, firing my sentries up in that direction and also bringing the saucer round that way. Hopefully I can deal with them this turn or next.

My other psychers are firing towards the MT to track where it goes for finishing off :)

Boom!

In the last turns message I taunted thegoblin by saying "Can you kill a few more of your troops with missiles before I blow your MT up?"

He happily obliged by catching a corner with his missile and taking out one of his XT's for me. Cheers, that saved my ammo!

I took out two of the three XT's heading in from the top of the map. Probably put a slight dent in the AI also. There is still another XT up there somewhere. Hopefully my Sentries can take care of it this turn. I have a few Psyches headed in that way too.

My Saucer is also going that way to help attack the AI.

My other saucer has made it back to base to refuel its armour.

The MT is now VERY low on health. My test orders show that a single Psyche is enough to finish it off, so thats what I'm going to try to do.

I'm moving troops round a little as there isnt much left on the right of the map. If I can keep the AI blind then it cannot attack me, so I'm moving the Psychers up that way.

Ooops, my bad

I'd forgotten this was a 25 point game......

I'd counted up the units I knew about, got to 20 and thought "Well, thats it. I've got this wrapped up!"

I was very confident, until the moment the doors alongside my sentry opened up, and another AI, and a hunter came rolling through it. That sentry, predictably enough, is no more.

I like it when games take a turn like this. Its what LSN is all about. Just when you think you have things sewn up, you get surprised.

Last turn I'd retreated my Warper back to the regen to rearm. It took him out of the comfortable Military Walled area where the AI's cannot get, but at least its in a better position to mount a sustained attack on the AI area.

I also managed to finish off the MT, and the resulting explosion obliterated the XT over there. That area is now purged of the enemy, excluding the Scanner thats flitting about somewhere. I'm not too worried about that at the moment.

Anyway, the injured AI had tunnelled through the building wall, and was also approaching my doomed sentry. That means that my Saucer is in totally the wrong place for an attack, unless I want to come round the back. Thats not ideal as I dont want to get cutoff from my regens.

I'm bringing the forward saucer back to wher it was last turn, just inside the doorway in the side corridor. It can get a couple of shots off towards the AI's.

The warper is firing towards the area, and then moving to the other regen for rearming. I dont want that hunter to sneak up and keep shooting it in the back.

I'm also trying to Psyche each unit, to harm and blind. I'm moving the Psychers over ready for next turn, but the Psycher in the middle is getting moved to just inside the doorway. Thats so that if the hunter tries to get inside its compartment it will hopefully be blocked and will be forced to stay outside. If that does happen then next turn it will not be able to move and fire at that psycher, leaving it a nice stationary target for my other Psychers. If I dont block the doorway then it could just move a few squares then commence its attack, making it a tricky Psyche target.

Current score 13 - 1

An AI Mini-herd!

The AI's are trubndling down towards my Regen area. The one in front is very heavily damanged. I have a shot inflight at the end of the turn, and test orders show its 50-50 on whether this shot fginishes the AI off or not.

I'm ording my low energy Saucer to finish off the weak AI, and then retreat to regen. The other saucer is going to target the healthier AI. When the first AI goes up it should take out the wall section that my Saucer is behind, leaving me with a nice path for attack.

My Psychers are attempting to zap the lone Hunter.

I'm also moving the Warper back to the other regen, ready for some warps next turn.

Its all over!

The AI's kept on trundling, and my Saucers kept on shooting.

They both went up in the same turn. I think one of my psychers got the hunter but I didnt see the usual psych symbol altough the points did go up.

I think the speed of the Saucers over the majority of the mechs force really helped here. I was able to do many hit and run style attacks and gradually whittle him down. I was also pretty lucky with my Warp placements, especially towards the AI and XT's at the top of the map.

Finally I was fortunate that none of his troops made it into my deployment zones. If a couple of hunters had got that far then they would have played havoc with my regens.

Final score 22 - 1
