I thought I'd post up the news that Jaques Cartier is starting up the Rising Star competition once more.
Its a competition specifically for new Laser Squad Nemesis players, so why not pop along to this page to check it out and sign up!

Sorry everyone, I managed to break the Request An Instructor game feature.
No-one emailed me to tell me, so I'm assuming no-one tried to request a game in the last few days...
If anyone did, but was too shy to piint out my error then please retry your request and it should go through ok now.

If you are seeing this then the server move has gone through ok.
If anyone requested an Instructor game and now finds it is not on the site then please re-post it.

This site might be off-line for a few days while I shift hosting companies. It should be painless, but please let me know if things do not work afterwards....

Today we have Oddball and TOMU coming on board. Click their entries over on the right hand side to read about them. They'll both be waiting for you to post your Instructor Game Request!

Itchyformore has launched a new LSN Competition aimed at new players. Its a knockout cup aimed at new players (or at least players who are currently in the Rookie league). Player run competitions are the lifeblood of LSN and this one is well worth a look. It'll be fairly short, so if you are not sure if you're ready for a full blown assault on the other LSN playters just yet, maybe this would be your thing?
He is also running an HQ League which differs from most player run comps in as much as you can play as few or as many games as you want. If you get too busy then you dont have to worry about defaulting any matches. Go pay him a visit, and tell him I sent you.

Hello visitors. Don't think I dont see you there... I have statistics that show that you are reading this page. So, why aren't you applying for any training games?
We have oodles of quality instructors eager to show you a few tips and tricks so ask for a game with them right now! It's dead easy!!

Today is a good day!
Not only have I fixed the problem with the website, but we also have a new instructor to swell our ranks. Please welcome Mr Cartier, and I hope you trainees are looking forward to playing him!

It looks like there was a problem with the Runner submission form.... I did test it after the upgrade and it seemed to be working but upon closer inspection I had it set up incorrectly.
However, I've fixed it now! So, if anyone has tried to post a game request recently, please report and it will go through correctly this time.

I must say a huge Thank You to Chad Everett for his help getting the Email Notifications working on this site once more. Now that they are all up and running once more we can get back to training up those Lasersquad Rookies.
At time of writing there is one Runner waiting, and has been for sometime. Has someone picked him up wthout posting a comment?

The new version of Movable Type (the software that runs this website) is due to be released shortly. I'll be upgrading the website with it, so if you spot anything that looks odd, or is just plain broken (especially the Request A Game feature) then please let me know .
Hopefully you won't even notice the difference, but it'll make maintaining the website (and stopping all the spammers who keep trying to post comments) a great deal easier.

It's nice to see more Runners coming through our doors these days. I hope you are all getting something out of your FI games, even if it is only a humiliating defeat.
There is also room for more Field Instructors. If you'd like to apply then drop me a line.

Cuh! I dunno.... I go to all the trouble of recruiting the best of the best in Field Instructor talent around, begging, pleading (and in some extreme cases bribing) people to give away their trade secrets to the youth of LSN and what happens...?
No-one wants a game.
Either my spiffing chaps are doing too good a job, or you are all too busy beating each other on the battlefield to visit this site.
Get clicking on the Post A Challenge link above, get submitting game requests and our FI's will be along to claim their apprentice. Just don't forget to end each in-game message with "Yes, Master!"

We have a new Instructor in our midst. A big hello to Doctor Benway, a member of the lofty Elite division. You can read more about him here and new Runners should expect to receive games from him shortly!

While I was fiddling about with the settings for the email notifications I managed to turn off any Comment subscriptions people may have added. If you have added any then I'm afraid you'll need to go back and do it again. Sorry 'bout that.
Also, any Field Instructors who opt to receive instant emails when a new Runner is waiting will now find that not only do you get new Runner emails, you also get new Runner comment emails. That way, you can see if another FI has beat you to the Runner!
If you dont like getting all these emails then you can click on the link contained in the notification email and either turn the comment mails on or off, or remove your subscription altogether. You just click on whatever option you want and its automagically saved away. Its dead easy, but any problems then feel free to mail me .

A big welcome to Palerider, who is another Instructor from the Elite division. Send him a challenge to pick his experienced brain!

Things are just flying along here!
I've just added some functionality to enable people to get instant emails whenever someone makes an entry on this site.
"Why on earth would I want to do that...?"
Well, if you are a Field Instructor for example, you could subscribe to the Waiting Runners category, and get instant notification of new waiting runners.
You could also get notification whenever anyone posts a comment to an entry you have also posted comments to. That way, if someone says something scandalous about you, you can get right back in there with a cutting remark. Or some gibberish, its up to you.
This feature is currently in test, but you should start seeing an option to subscribe popping up around the site.

As I posted earlier, I've found a way for new players to ask for a game with any of our Instructors.
At the top of the main page there is a link that says "Post A Challenge Request" . This should open a new window that will allow you to enter your LSN Playername and a brief message to go with it. Once you've posted it then your entry should appear under the Waiting Runners link also at the top of the page.
Once you are listed there then one of our FI's should pop along to send you a challenge. Depending on how busy they are it might take a little while for this challenge to appear, so if you are desperate to get going you can still issue your own to one of the Available Instructors over on the right.
This feature is brand-new, so there may be a few little niggles in there. I've given it a solid test, but if you think you have found a problem with it then drop me an email

It looks like I've finally found a decent method for allowing people looking for a challenge to make a direct posting on this site.
So, if you don't really mind which Field Instructor you have a game with you can post a general request and then one of our loving FI's will pick it up.
I'm going to try setting it up tonight on a test website to see how it goes......

Cmon people, get challenging for your FI games.
There are a few people on here who havent received a challenge yet, and they have lots of wisdom to impart to you.
For example, Spacedog here is really rather high up in the Elite league. Don't you think he might have learnt a few tricks on his way up there? Don't you want to know what they are? I certainly do, but he wont tell me. So, its up to you to challenge him, get the inside story and then report back to me!
We also have Eagle Of Fire . Although he is fluent in French, he is also most conversant in English. He probably spekas it far better than it is wot I do. Send him a challenge (but hope he doesnt deploy Mechs)
There is nothing to say you can only play one Instructor at a time, or only play each Instructor once. Provided they are available then anyone can challenge any FI.
Dont be shy, our Instructors dont bite (unless they are playing Spawn) and you might just learn that little extra something to help enjoy LSN that little bit more.

I've added a form on the bottom right whereby you can signup to receive emails when this site gets updated. Its powered by Bloglet, a central clearing house for blogs.
You obviously have to give them your email address, but you can check out their privacy policy here
That way uou'll get email updates of new Instructors, plus anything else that gets listed here. Goooaaan, give it a whirl!

We now have twelve Field Instructors just waiting to take new recruits under their collective wings, and fly them off to the loft heights of LSN excellence.1
They are all marvellous people, kindly giving up their time to help you learn the ropes of LSN . Twelve disciples..... Twelve FI's..... Coincidence?
Please dont challenge anyone listed as unavailable. If you've decided that an unavailable FI is the one you really want to play then check back here later as the list does get updated as people become free.
Also, let your FI know what you thought of the games you played by leaving them a comment here.
1 Ok.... 11 and the goblin.

I've decided to loosen the commenting restriction on this site. Now, unregistered commenters will get their comments listed immediately, they will no longer be moderated until I approve them. I want to make it easier for people to comment on our FI's and to chat with them about games you might be playing at the moment.
I have set up some anti-spam scripts so if any of those nasty spammers get hold of the site I can deal with most of it automatically.
Of course, it's still better to get a free Typekey account but if you don't fancy that then you can now comment without restriction. You will still need to enter an email address, but it will not be displayed on the site.

If you feel you have what it takes to be listed as a Field Instructor for Laser Squad Nemesis then drop me a line. Include a short description of yourself, and details of your timezone and languages and I'll get you listed here. Dont forget to tell me what your LSN name is if it isnt painfully obvious. (In fact its probably best to tell me even if it is painfully obvious....)
Please note that this is all totally unofficial, but I really miss the FI system and wanted to do something that would help new LSN players learn their craft. It helped me when I was starting out, and I like to think that I helped other new players during my stint as an official FI. This is my way of carrying on that tradition.
